Tai Tong Sweet Gum Woods is a spectacle of color. It is located in Tai Lam Country Park in Yuen Long. The woods are most famous for their sweet gum trees. These trees transform into vibrant hues of orange and red each fall.

Getting to Tai Tong Sweet Gum Woods is part of the adventure. From Long Ping Station, take bus K66. It will drop you near the park. If you prefer driving, there is a car park. Arrive early to secure a spot.
The walk from the park entrance to the Sweet Gum Woods takes about 20 to 30 minutes. The path is mostly concrete. It is perfect for families. You will see trees sporting their fall colors along the way. Signposts guide you.

Environmentalists have worked hard to preserve this area. Plaques along the trail detail their efforts. They provide information on different plants and flowers. The Yuen Tsuen Ancient Trail overlaps with part of the nature trail.
During the autumn and winter, Tai Tong is known for its sweet gum woods. It offers a local glimpse of seasonal foliage. If you only want to see the Sweet Gum Woods, there is a faster way. Walk up Tai Tong Road from the BBQ grounds. Follow the path to the right of the guard post. Continue past the Tai Tong First Nursery. You will soon reach the sweet gum trees.
Leaf cells contain chlorophyll, carotenoids, and anthocyanin. In autumn, chlorophyll decomposes. This allows leaf cells to produce anthocyanin. The carotenoids remain unaffected. This results in the yellow and red colors you see.
