Whose legacy echoes through the streets of Warsaw? We stand before the Tadeusz Hennel Plaque. It commemorates a man who left an undeniable mark on Polish industry. Tadeusz Hennel, born in Warsaw in 1888, was more than just an engineer. He was a visionary leader and a patriot. Hennel played a pivotal role in the establishment of the Ursus S.A. Car Factory in Czechowice in 1924. Imagine the roar of engines as Poland’s automotive industry took its first steps. Hennel’s leadership as Deputy Director of Technical Matters at the Ursus Mechanical Works was critical in those early days. His dedication to his craft and his country was unwavering. Even after the devastation of World War II, Hennel was one of the first to return to the Ursus factory, determined to rebuild. His commitment to Poland’s industrial recovery earned him the Gold Cross of Merit in 1946, adding to the Silver Cross of Merit he had received in 1933. Tadeusz Hennel’s story, though little known perhaps, is a reminder that behind every great endeavor are the tireless efforts of individuals dedicated to their craft and their nation.
