“Different names?” I can almost hear you ask. Szamoty was called many things. Wojszcze. Wojszczyce. Bożejki. Even Szwaby. But today we know it as Szamoty.
Let’s step back in time. Szamoty’s story begins long ago. The first mention of this village dates back to 1479. Back then, the Szwabowie family owned it. Later, the Stossowie, Płońscy, and others became owners.
In the 16th century, Szamoty was known as Swabi Bożeje. It was part of the Błoński district. This district belonged to the Warsaw region of the Mazowieckie Province.
The 19th century brought changes. In 1864, Tsar Alexander II emancipated peasants. Among them were Schneider, Szadkowski, and Wiśniewski.
An important event shaped Szamoty. The Warsaw-Kalisz railway was built. It cut through the village’s northern lands. Later, in 1932, a connection was made with the Warsaw-Vienna railway.
The year 1921 marked a turning point. The Ursus factory bought land in Szamoty. This purchase led to the village’s slow absorption into the factory.
More land was acquired in 1937. The factory expanded. It used the land for a forge. This expansion helped fund a fire station and municipal office in Czechowice. It also helped build a school in Skorosze.
After World War II, the factory continued to grow. It bought more land. The factory even crossed Bazaltowy Trakt in 1952. Traffic was rerouted through other streets.
The Ursus factory expanded further. It bought land from owners. These owners moved to nearby Czechowice. Eventually, the factory dominated Szamoty. Workers lived in barracks near the factory. These barracks became part of the plant.
After the Ursus factory closed, changes came to Szamoty. After 2020, many housing developments were built here. Today, Szamoty is a modern residential area. New apartments stand where factories once stood.
Today, Szamoty is part of the Ursus district. It is a place of modern living. Yet, its history remains. It’s a story of villages, factories, and transformation. Two train stations mark its edges. Warszawa Ursus Północny and Warszawa Ursus serve the area. They connect Szamoty to the city.
Szamoty continues to evolve. It embraces the future. It builds on its past. This blend creates a unique character. It is a place where history and modernity meet.
