Built as part of the Nadwiślańska Railway Line in the early 20th century, the Symboliczna rampa kolejowa played a role in the tragic deportation of Jews during World War II. On August 20, 1942, approximately 8,000 Jewish individuals were deported from here to the Treblinka extermination camp. The event, etched in history as a day of immense sorrow, saw 6,500 Jews from the Falenica ghetto forced onto trains. They were joined by another thousand, subjected to a “death march” from the Rembertów ghetto. Hundreds more were brought from Otwock, where the ghetto had been previously liquidated.
