The Sydney Showground is more than just the home of the Sydney Royal Easter Show. It was initially designed as a key venue for the 2000 Summer Olympics. It replaced the older showground at Moore Park. The Sydney Showground Stadium, the heart of this precinct, hosted the Olympic baseball events. Remember Tommy Lasorda, the two-time World Series champion manager? He led the USA to their first Olympic baseball gold right here, defeating Cuba in a thrilling 4-0 victory. It’s the beloved home of several sporting teams. The Greater Western Sydney Giants of the Australian Football League call the Sydney Showground Stadium their primary home. In 2016, the stadium hosted its first AFL finals game. The Giants faced the Western Bulldogs in a nail-biting preliminary final, narrowly losing by six points.
