Seven hundred years. That’s how long Svinařov has stood. Picture it a small village nestled near Kladno. It’s a quiet place now. But its history whispers tales of bustling activity.

Svinařov’s name itself hints at its past. Derived from cattle breeding or perhaps winemaking. It served the nearby gord of Libušín. That ancient fortified settlement. Imagine the carts rumbling along. Carrying goods to and from the gord. Svinařov a vital part of that early community.

The written record begins in 1328. A sale. Bořita of Ředhošť selling Svinařov to the Vyšehrad Chapter. Archaeological evidence from Libušín however suggests earlier habitation. Perhaps Svinařov existed for centuries before that first written mention. A silent witness to history long before pens recorded its events.

A fortress was built around 1330. The Vyšehrad Chapter then leased Svinařov to various tenants. This changed under Wenceslaus IV. The village was sold. Later it became part of the Martinic family’s Smečno estate. They were among the richest and most powerful families in the Czech kingdom.

The 19th century brought change. Coal was discovered. People flocked to the area. Svinařov grew. Agriculture was replaced by coal mining. This lasted until the mines closed in 2002. This once booming village now thrives in its quiet simplicity.

Though Svinařov may not boast protected cultural monuments. Its unassuming charm hides deep historical roots. It speaks of a past connected to ancient settlements. To powerful families. To the rise and fall of industry. The village’s quiet brook the Svinařovský Brook still flows. A constant companion through the ages. Today we can see a baroque bell tower. A small statue of Pietà. Silent reminders of the rich past of Svinařov. A place where history and tranquility meet. A place worth exploring.
