Beyond these walls lies innovation. This is the Sunstone Building. It is a hub of scientific exploration in Klosterneuburg.
Opened in September 2021, the Sunstone Building represents a meeting point. Theory meets experimentation within its walls. It is the ninth new building on the Institute of Science and Technology Austria campus.
Designed by Franz and Sue and Maurer and Partner, its doors opened three years after laying the foundation stone. The Sunstone Building covers over 10,000 square meters. It provides space for 120 researchers working in 12 research groups.
Thomas Henzinger, President of IST Austria, said the building houses the Graduate School and Library. It also has state-of-the-art equipment for basic chemical research. Researchers follow their curiosity without constraints.
The Sunstone Building enhances scientific possibilities. A new Scientific Service Unit exists within. The nuclear magnetic resonance facility allows scientists to investigate molecules. They study proteins and the building blocks of life in detail. Researchers can track quantum phenomena by investigating the magnetic and electrical properties of tiny particles.
The mix of theoretical and experimental groups fosters interdisciplinary research. Twelve groups collaborate in the building. The library offers researchers access to specialist literature and the opportunity to exchange ideas. The Graduate School improves student education.
Other buildings are under construction to support the growing research community. Another laboratory building is in the design phase. The Sunstone Building fosters scientific advancement. It is a place where researchers push boundaries. They explore the dynamics of life. They train the next generation of scientific leaders. The Sunstone Building represents Austria’s commitment to science and innovation.
