“A Stuttgarter for life.” That’s the motto that echoes through the history of Stuttgarter Hofbräu. Here, in the heart of Stuttgart, stands a brewery steeped in tradition. It’s more than just a place where beer is made. It’s a landmark deeply connected to the city’s identity.

Stuttgarter Hofbräu’s story begins in the 16th century. Monks from St. Luzen Abbey were granted the right to brew beer. This was their reward for hard work. By 1608, they were delivering their first batches to the royal court. Fast forward to 1872. The breweries of St. Luzen and Englischer Garten merged. They formed the Württemberg-Hohenzollersche Brauereigesellschaft.

In 1883, Stuttgarter Hofbräu became the official supplier to the royal court of Württemberg. This is why it adopted the name “Hofbräu”. The name translates to “court brewery”. In 1933, the brewery simplified its name to Stuttgarter Hofbräu. The brewery hit a milestone in 1981. It produced over one million hectoliters for the first time. In 2002, it began producing Malteser Weissbier.

Today, Stuttgarter Hofbräu is owned by the Radeberger Gruppe. The group is a subsidiary of Dr. August Oetker. Radeberger Gruppe initially acquired 49% of the shares in 2004. By 2010, it had become the sole shareholder. Stuttgarter Hofbräu remains a vital part of Stuttgart’s culture. Since 2002, it has been a major sponsor of the Cannstatter Volksfest. The brewery even organizes the election of the festival’s king and princesses.

Stuttgarter Hofbräu offers a wide range of beers. These include Pilsner, Export, and Shandy. Seasonal beers like Volksfest Beer, Frühlingsfest Beer, and Christmas Beer are also brewed. You can also find Bügel Premium and Kellerbier among their flip-top selections. Wheat beer and Käpsele Helles are also among their offerings.

Stuttgarter Hofbräu is committed to nature conservation in Baden-Württemberg. For over two decades, it has supported environmental efforts. The Stuttgarter Hofbräu Environmental Foundation supports various nature conservation projects. These projects focus on the importance of water.

So when you raise a glass of Stuttgarter Hofbräu, remember its rich history. From monastic origins to royal court supplier, it embodies Stuttgart’s spirit. Each sip is a taste of tradition. It’s a reminder of the brewery’s enduring connection to its home.
