The Studierenden-Service-Center is more than just a building. It’s a hub for student life at the University of Cologne. This impressive structure houses all administrative services for students. These services were previously spread across various buildings on campus. Now they’re all conveniently located here in the SSC.
Designed by Schuster Architekten from Düsseldorf the SSC occupies a vast area. It measures approximately 90 by 80 meters. The building boasts two distinct facades. On the street side it seamlessly integrates with the main university building. Bright green window frames punctuate the smooth grey exterior.
The Studierenden-Service-Center isn’t just for administrative tasks. It also accommodates the Department of German as a Foreign Language. The Professional Center found a new home here as well. Facilities from the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences and the Faculty of Law are also housed within this architectural gem. The building’s total cost excluding the land was a significant 40000000 euros. It’s a six to ten-story structure with a total gross floor area of 20800 square meters. This includes 11500 square meters of usable space.
High-quality door systems ensure easy access for the bustling university community. OGRO door handles models 8906 and 8907 add a modern touch to the Studierenden-Service-Center’s design. The building’s facade is made of fiber concrete panels. The color scheme emphasizes the different sides of the building. The courtyard side is more detailed and nuanced. The street-facing side is grander and more uniform.
