Remember when Stinsen bustled with shoppers? Stinsen, once a vibrant shopping center in Häggvik, Sollentuna, holds a unique place in local history.
Stinsen first opened its doors in 1995. Ingvar Oldsberg did the honors in the former Philipssons o. Söner AB building. This building previously sold Mercedes Benz cars. Hints of its automotive past linger. The two large Deve car lifts remain. They now function as freight elevators.
Stinsen expanded over the years. It celebrated a grand re-opening in 2009. For years Stinsen welcomed around three million visitors annually. It offered parking for 1,400 vehicles. The total floor space spanned 40,500 square meters.
But Stinsen’s story took an unexpected turn. In 2016, new owners, Magnolia Bostad AB, acquired Stinsen. They submitted a proposal to demolish the shopping center. Their vision involved constructing housing on the site.
In 2017, the new property owner collaborated with Sollentuna Municipality. Together, they developed a proposal for a new detailed plan for the area.
Today, Stinsen’s future is evolving. What was once a bustling hub of commerce is now slated for redevelopment. However, the memories of Stinsen remain. It was a place where people gathered, shopped, and created memories. Though Stinsen is physically changing, its legacy in the community endures. Stinsen serves as a reminder of the ever-changing urban landscape.
