How did this tiny signal box end up perched on this massive railway bridge? Right in front of you is the Stellwerkkabine, a small structure made entirely of sheet metal. It seems almost dwarfed by the imposing Hardturm Viadukt it sits upon. The Stellwerkkabine may seem unassuming, but it holds an important piece of Zurich’s railway history. Built in 1981, this little cabin with its large windows was once the nerve center for controlling the trains that thundered across the Hardturm Viadukt. Imagine the railway signalman inside, carefully monitoring the signals and levers, ensuring the smooth and safe passage of countless journeys.
