The Standesamt M\u00f6dling is located in the town hall. Its lovely environment makes it a popular choice for weddings. The well-preserved Old City, where the town hall stands, adds to its charm. This area is protected by the Hague Convention.

M\u00f6dling itself boasts a rich history. The name M\u00f6dling evolved over centuries. It changed from Medilihha to Medelikch then Medling. The name’s origin is old Slavic. It means slowly running water.

The town’s history stretches back to Neolithic times. Traces of Hallstatt culture settlements were found on the Kalenderberg. Roman coins and a burial site were also discovered.

In 903 AD, M\u00f6dling was first mentioned in a document. Two bishops exchanged lands. However, the settlement was destroyed a few years later.

The Babenberg family once resided in M\u00f6dling. Because of this, it earned the nickname Babenbergerstadt meaning Town of the Babenbergs. Arts and culture flourished here. The minnesinger Walther von der Vogelweide often visited.

M\u00f6dling was also known for its grapes. It was the largest grape-growing community in Lower Austria after Langenlois. In 1343, Duke Albrecht II granted M\u00f6dling market town rights.

The town faced devastation in 1529. The Ottomans attacked during the first siege of Vienna. Many citizens died from the Black Death in 1679. When the Ottomans returned in 1683, almost all citizens were killed.

After the second plague epidemic, survivors built a monument. It is the Holy Trinity column at Freiheitsplatz. This symbolized their resilience.

Ludwig van Beethoven frequented M\u00f6dling. His favorite pub was the Three Ravens. Arnold Schoenberg also lived here. He invented his twelve-tone technique in M\u00f6dling.

In 1875, M\u00f6dling officially became a city. From 1883 to 1932, the M\u00f6dling and Hinterbr\u00fchl Tram operated. It was Austria’s first electric railway.

For a brief period, M\u00f6dling became part of Vienna in 1938. It was later returned to Lower Austria in 1954.

Today, M\u00f6dling is a vibrant town. It’s known as Stadt der Musik Stadt der Feste and Stadt der Kultur. The Standesamt M\u00f6dling stands as a testament to enduring love. It is set against a backdrop of rich history.
