Is it possible for a city to capture the magic of the cosmos? In Stralsund, it seems, they’ve found a way. Right before you stands Stadt der Sterne No 9, one of twenty illuminated stars scattered across this historic city. Each star, reaching over seven meters high, transforms Stralsund into a “City of Stars” every winter. This initiative, known as “Stadt der Sterne,” bathes Stralsund in a celestial glow, reminding residents and visitors of hope and joy, especially during the darkest months of the year. The idea blossomed from Stralsund’s mayor, Alexander Badrow. He envisioned a project that would unite the city and spread cheer. What began with just five stars in 2020 quickly grew to twenty in 2021, with each star representing a different district. The result is a captivating spectacle: a city where the sky seems to mirror itself on the ground, with every corner touched by stardust. While Stadt der Sterne No 9 might appear as a simple illuminated structure, it represents something much larger. It embodies the spirit of unity, the magic of winter, and the boundless potential that shines within a community that dares to dream under the stars.
