The Stadt der Sterne No 29 Installation is part of an initiative that bathes Stralsund in winter light. This installation along with others turns the city into a visual spectacle. The illuminated stars shine until February 2nd. Each star brings warmth to the hearts of Stralsund’s residents and visitors.
These aren’t just any stars. The Stadt der Sterne No 29 Installation is one of many giant stars. Each is over seven meters in diameter. They sparkle with all the colours of the rainbow. The stars create a magical atmosphere.
The Stralsund’s Trail of Stars is a popular walking destination. People of all ages explore the city to see each star. The stars serve as great photo opportunities.
In 2020, the first seven-meter star was assembled. It stood at the Kreuzung Prohner Straße/Ecke Rudolf-Virchow-Straße. The light sent joy to the hearts of Stralsund’s residents.
Mayor Alexander Badrow described the spectacle in 2021. He said it looked “als wenn sich der Himmel in Stralsund spiegelt”. This translates to “as if the sky is reflected in Stralsund.” Twenty large stars and three smaller stars illuminated the city.
The smaller stars were found at St. Nikolai, St. Marien, and the Katholische Kirche Heilige Dreifaltigkeit. Another star shone at the Hospiz “Gezeiten”.
The Stadt der Sterne project has a dedicated website. It features a map of all star locations and a gallery of star photos.
During the Christmas season, Stralsund is aglow with lights and festive decorations. The city invites everyone to enjoy the Christmas spirit in person or virtually.
