“Have you ever considered how a simple chapel evolved into the St Therese’s Catholic Church we see today?” That is a great story to tell you while standing here. This church is more than just bricks and mortar. It represents faith and community in Denistone.

St Therese’s Catholic Church has deep roots. It began with a need to serve Ryde Hospital. In 1938, a humble house became The Chapel of the Little Flower. For ten years, it welcomed worshippers every Sunday. Imagine that small space filled with prayer.

December 11, 1948 marked a new beginning. The parish was officially established. The Blessed Eucharist found its home here. The Chapel of the Little Flower was renamed St Therese’s Catholic Church. It honored St Therese of Lisieux.

Now, let’s jump forward a few years. The foundation stone for the first church or school was laid in October 1951. Another important day was in April 1961. Bishop Muldoon laid the foundation stone for the present St Therese’s Catholic Church building. The church officially opened on December 10, 1961.

St Therese’s message guides the parish. She believed in doing ordinary things with extraordinary love for God. This spirit is alive here today. The parish encourages everyone to live out this message. It’s about showing love in everyday moments.

The Parish Office is located in the presbytery at 8 Inkerman Road. It is the center for administrative and pastoral activities. The office is open Monday to Friday.

Maryanne Tonkli is the Parish Secretary. She joined the team in August 2024. Her deep faith helps her assist in God’s work. She ensures the parish runs smoothly.

Deacon Aruna Perera is an invaluable member. He supports the parish community. His faith and love for God inspire everyone.

Fr Simon Apablaza is the priest. He came to Australia in 2002. He was ordained in 2011. Fr Simon served in various parishes before coming to Denistone. He brings joy and experience to the parish.

St Therese’s Catholic Church is more than a building. It is a family of God. It is a place of faith, community, and love. It welcomes all who seek spiritual support. It embodies St Therese’s message of extraordinary love. It serves as a beacon, and has done for many years.
