Who would have thought that a simple ingredient like salt could hold the key to understanding our place in the world? Here at St. Teresa’s School, a Catholic school nestled in the heart of Karori, Wellington, the students in Miro and Rimu classes recently embarked on a fascinating exploration of this very idea. St. Teresa’s, a place where faith and learning intertwine, became a laboratory of sorts as these young minds delved into the “power of salt,” inspired by Jesus’s teachings. Guided by their teachers, they discovered that just as salt can make an egg float in water, our words of encouragement have the power to uplift others. They learned that salt can even connect ice cubes to a string, much like our actions and words can bring people together, strengthening the bonds of community. But perhaps the most delicious lesson came in the form of ice cream! Using salt, milk, vanilla extract, and a whole lot of shaking, the students witnessed firsthand the transformative power of salt, turning simple ingredients into a sweet treat. This delightful experiment not only tickled their taste buds but also served as a reminder that they, too, have the power to bring sweetness and joy into the world, just like St. Teresa’s School does for the Karori community.
