St Peter’s Church on Willis Street in Wellington is a landmark of history and architecture. It is a handsome timber structure built in the Gothic Revival style. The church was designed by prominent Wellington architect Thomas Turnbull and opened in 1879. It is a significant example of the Gothic style executed in timber. The original building was built in 1847 on the corner of Willis and Ghuznee streets. The first church was designed by H.J.Cridland. In 1878, the church building was moved 45 meters to a new site, now known as the ‘old St Peter’s Church’ while a new church was constructed on its original site.
