Beyond these walls lies a story of transformation. St. Patrick Catholic Secondary School stands here today. But its roots stretch back to 1852. It began as an elementary school in downtown Toronto.

St. Patrick’s journey is one of constant evolution. It moved to various locations. Finally, it became a secondary school on D’Arcy Street in 1986. By 1989, St. Patrick found its current home on Felstead Avenue. This building once housed Lakeview Public School.

Let me tell you more about St. Patrick Catholic Secondary School. The school’s story began with Irish refugees. They sought solace and community. St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, became a symbol of hope. He embodies the school’s Catholic identity.

The school also honors St. Marguerite Bourgeoys. She was a French missionary and educator. Bourgeoys founded the Congregation de Notre Dame. Sister L. Corrigan from this congregation was St. Patrick’s first principal.

Notice the school’s motto: “Amor Christi Nos Impellit”. This translates to “The Love of Christ Impels Us.” It guides the school’s mission. The shamrock on the crest symbolizes Ireland. It also represents the Holy Trinity.

The school has undergone major renovations. Kingsland + Architects Inc. led a design update in 2007. They created construction and communication technology suites. They also added theatre and visual arts rooms. Upgrades for students with multiple exceptionalities were included. A daycare was also added.

Now, St. Patrick Catholic Secondary School is the Centre for Arts, Media and Technology. It offers enriched programs in dance, drama, music and visual arts. They also have a strong Advanced Placement program.

The school has facilities for diverse programs. You’ll find recording, dance and theatre arts studios. There are also PC and Mac computer labs. A bakery and servery support hospitality programs. Cutting-edge technology includes a laser cutter and 3D printers. Robotics and technological design workshops provide hands-on experience. In 2017, a new FIFA-grade soccer field was built.

The school is more than just bricks and mortar. It’s a vibrant community. It fosters academic excellence. St. Patrick encourages students to thrive. It prepares them to be responsible citizens. They live Gospel values. They serve local and global communities. Inspired by Christ’s love St. Patrick Catholic Secondary School shapes well-rounded individuals.
