Gazing up at St. Paschal Baylon Church, imagine the bustling energy of its early days. St. Paschal Baylon Church was established on October 1, 1957. It was established by Cardinal James C. McGuigan, the Archbishop of Toronto. The church was entrusted to two Scalabrinian priests. The Scalabrinians are a special order. They are the Missionaries of St. Charles. Their order was founded by Saint John Baptist Scalabrini. He was the bishop of Piacenza, Italy. The Scalabrinians have a unique mission. They provide pastoral care to migrants. They focus especially on the poorest among them. This mission is woven into the very fabric of St. Paschal Baylon Church. By 2016, a new wave of immigrants began attending St. Paschal Baylon Church. These were Korean immigrants seeking spiritual solace. Recognizing this growing need, the Scalabrinians took action. With full support from the auxiliary Bishop of Toronto, they began offering Mass in Korean. Initially, the Korean Mass was held once a month. Later, due to its popularity, it was increased to twice a month. It takes place on the first and third Sundays at 6 p.m. A Korean priest was invited to assist in these services. This demonstrates St. Paschal Baylon Church’s ongoing commitment to serving migrant communities. The church continues to be a beacon of hope and faith. It stands as a testament to the Scalabrinian dedication to those far from home. The church is located at 92 Steeles Ave. West in Thornhill, Ontario. You can reach them at 905-889-9021. The current pastor is Rev. Ezio Marchetto. Rev. Mario Lorenzana serves as the Associate Pastor. Rev. Camillo Lando also resides at the church. Next time you visit St. Paschal Baylon Church, remember its rich history. Reflect on the countless souls who have found comfort and community within its walls.
