Tragedy struck in 1979. A fire destroyed the church. The community faced a daunting challenge. They had to rebuild their beloved place of worship.

An empty lot at 3840 Finch Avenue East offered great potential. The community seized the opportunity. They envisioned a new church. It would be a beacon of hope. It would be a testament to their unwavering faith.

Construction began on the present Byzantine-style church. The new St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church officially opened its doors on December 4, 1983. This marked a new chapter for the community. It was a moment of joy. It was a symbol of perseverance.

The consecration of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church occurred on May 15, 1994. His Eminence Metropolitan Archbishop Sotirios of Toronto led the ceremony. This was a significant milestone. It solidified the church’s spiritual foundation.

A momentous occasion occurred in May 1998. His All Holiness Bartholomew visited St. Nicholas. He is the Archbishop of Constantinople-New Rome and Ecumenical Patriarch. This historic visit was a blessing for the parish. It recognized the church’s importance within the Orthodox community.
