St Madeleine Sophie Barat’s vision extended beyond French borders, reaching Australia in 1882 with the arrival of five pioneering nuns. These women established the first Convent of the Sacred Heart school in Rose Bay. Initially located in Claremont, a property at Rose Bay, the school quickly flourished. It later merged with Kincoppal, another school established by the society in 1909. Today, this institution is known as Kincoppal-Rose Bay, a testament to the enduring legacy of St Madeleine Sophie Barat. The society’s influence is further solidified with the beautiful chapel at Rose Bay. Designed by the renowned architect John Horbury Hunt, it stands as a tangible representation of the society’s commitment to faith and education in Australia.
