In 1908, a magnificent structure arose on this very spot. It was built to house the burgeoning congregation of St. John’s Presbyterian Church. Their original meeting place, just south of here, had become too small. St. John’s Presbyterian Church needed a space that could accommodate their growing numbers and expanding mission. The congregation of St. John’s Presbyterian Church, originally formed in 1888, quickly outgrew their first home. This new building, dedicated in 1908, was a testament to their faith and community spirit. The sanctuary of St. John’s Presbyterian Church was designed to seat over one thousand people. It also included ample halls and meeting rooms, providing space for various activities and gatherings. This expansion allowed the church to continue growing and serving its community. St. John’s Presbyterian Church celebrated its 136th anniversary in November 2024, marking a long history of faith and service in Toronto. The church’s commitment to Christian faith is evident in their welcoming and nurturing environment. Guided by the Holy Spirit, they strive to live out God’s love. They extend their reach into the surrounding community and beyond, sharing their faith and making a positive impact.
