Right before us stands St. Hedwig. This church is more than just bricks and mortar. It’s a vibrant hub for faith and community in Stuttgart-Möhringen and Sonnenberg.
St. Hedwig has about 4,700 members. It is part of a larger parish. This parish includes St. Ulrich on Fasanenhof. The Croatian community of Sveti Martin also belongs here.
St. Hedwig was built as a three-aisled basilica. Otto Müller, a government architect, designed it. The church was consecrated in 1953. Since then, there have been many renovations. One example is the creation of dedicated youth rooms.
St. Hedwig offers much to young families. Every second Sunday, there is a special service for toddlers. It takes place in the Hedwig Hall. There is also a school children’s service in the chapel. Later the school children join the main service. Many young people are active as altar servers. They participate in the Catholic Youth Community and the German Scout Association. The youth groups meet weekly. They organize trips and camps.
The parish also runs two large daycare centers. These are for both toddlers and kindergarten children.
St. Hedwig and St. Ulrich publish a magazine together. It is called “Wegbegleiter”. This magazine informs people about events in the communities. It also addresses current church topics. Volunteer distributors deliver the magazine to Catholic households. It is also available in the churches and parish offices.
Music plays a big role. Various church choirs exist for all ages. There is also an ecumenical choir. New singers are always welcome.
St. Hedwig is an international community. The parish includes three Indian sisters. An African parish vicar also belongs. A Spanish church musician is part of the team. Also, a Croatian and a Portuguese sacristan. People from different countries find a home here.
St. Hedwig opens its doors. It accompanies people. It helps them to lead fulfilling lives. The church contributes to the community. It helps to integrate people from different countries.
In 2025, St. Hedwig celebrates its organ. The Vleugels organ was renovated and expanded. The festive inauguration took place in November 2024. Throughout 2025, there will be eight organ concerts.
St. Hedwig also has an Advent window. Every year on December 6th, families gather here. The window at the chapel entrance is decorated. The daycare center sings. A story is told.
St. Hedwig is a place of faith, community, and music. It is a welcoming home for all. It is a place where people come together.
