St George Christian School began in 1981. Five local Christian families founded it. They started with just nine students from Kindergarten to Year 4. Hazel Burns was the first teacher.
By 1984 St George Christian School had grown. It operated out of two campuses. The first Year 12 class graduated in 1989. In 1995, the school began double streaming. Triple streaming started from Year 7 in 2003. A Middle School was implemented in 2008. It catered to the needs of early adolescence. From 2009, the school had four departments. Each represented particular educational needs.
St George Christian School now has two campuses. The main school is at Hurstville. It houses the Junior, Middle, and Senior Schools plus the School Office. The Infants School is at Sans Souci. It’s a dedicated space for the youngest students.
St George Christian School offers many co-curricular activities. The Infants School has piano lessons. Percussion, sensory integration, and specialist teachers are present. Speech and drama are also available.
The Junior School has a range of activities. These include a junior band and choir. Students can participate in music lessons. There is a jump rope team. Musical performances and speech and drama are other options. A student representative council is present.
Middle School students enjoy various activities. These activities include band and choir. They also enjoy a chess club and jump rope team. There is a leadership team and robotics club. A student representative council gives the students a voice.
Senior School students can join several groups. “Pulse” is a senior fellowship group. It meets weekly. Band and percussion options include private tuition. Senior music ensembles are available. The “Beyond Ourselves” group plans outreach programs. The robotics club has beginner and advanced sections.
St George Christian School encourages sports. These sports include swimming and athletics. Cross country running, netball, and tennis are other options. Students can also participate in volleyball and soccer. Rope skipping is available.
The school uses a house system. Upon entry, students are assigned to one of four houses. Houses form the basis for competitions. These competitions include athletics and cross country. Swimming carnivals and “House Day” are other examples.
