Why did the brothers Regenbolt and Wezelo donate a church to the St. Kunibert monastery in Cologne?. Our story takes us back to the year 1135, to the quaint village of Weiler. The brothers, wealthy landowners, felt a deep sense of gratitude for their prosperity. They decided to express this gratitude by donating a church on their estate “Wilre”. This act of generosity marked the earliest historical record we have of a church in Weiler. The church, dedicated to Saints Cosmas and Damian, became a beacon of faith for the community. But time, as it often does, took its toll. Centuries later, the original church, weathered by the years, stood as a testament to the past. A new church was built a little further south, completed in 1925. Though the original structure is gone, the spirit of the brothers’ generosity lives on. The new St. Cosmas u. Damian Church stands as a symbol of faith. It reminds us of the enduring power of gratitude.
