St. Chad’s is an evangelical Anglican parish. It is a member of the Anglican Network in Canada. This network is a diocese of the Anglican Church in North America. The church is a mixture of ages and occupations. People come from various cultures backgrounds and locations.
They believe in the triune God of Scripture. This includes the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. They believe Jesus Christ died for our sins. He rose again. God gives new life. He welcomes people into his family when they place their faith in Jesus Christ. God gives love to each other and for the city.
St Chad’s Anglican is privileged to share the Gospel. The church introduces others to Jesus Christ. They value the multicultural nature of Toronto. Their desire is to mirror that diversity in the parish.
Each week, they gather to worship God. They also meet in home groups. These groups focus on prayer discussion fellowship and outreach. The church builds relationships. They host weekday seniors’ services. They participate in inter-church neighborhood networking. Occasional parish suppers are offered. They provide periodic courses introducing Jesus. These refresh their faith.

St Chad’s, however, wasn’t always here in Toronto. The original St Chad’s was built in the late 1860s. It was on land that was part of the Beckett Dennison family’s Kirkstall Grange estate. St Chad’s was consecrated in January 1868.
Edmund Dennison was an MP. He supported the Church of England. His family had already provided two new churches. These were Holy Trinity and St Simon. His decision to build St Chad’s was part of Anglican renewal. This took place in mid-Victorian Leeds. Leeds grew quickly. Many new churches and schools were built. He was supported by his son the 1st Lord Grimthorpe. He designed the original building with W H Crossland.
Originally, St Chad’s Church had only three bells. More bells were added later. All bells were recast in 1933. The tower and steeple are beautifully designed. The spire is octagonal and triple-banded.
The choir stalls are finely carved of oak. Six windows depict saintly figures. These saints were important in the early church. The East Window’s theme is the Redemption of Creation. The window was removed for safekeeping during WW2.
The Chapel was renamed for St Oswald. This happened when St. Oswald’s Church closed in July 2002.
The organ at St Chad’s is considered one of the finest. It was built in 1911. The instrument speaks directly into the building. It has great clarity and attack.
St Chad’s continues to be a place of worship. It welcomes all who seek faith and community.
