Lost in the echoes of a flooded past, the Spirála Theatre stands reborn. This isn’t just any theatre. The Novà Spirála, as it’s now known, sits within Prague’s Exhibition Centre in Holešovice. It boasts a unique circular auditorium, a design resurrected from the ashes of a catastrophic flood in 2002. Imagine, for a moment, the devastation of that time. The Spirála, once a vibrant hub of performance, silenced by the rising waters. For over 20 years, it remained closed, a ghostly reminder of what had been. At one point, demolition loomed. Yet, like a phoenix from the ashes, this iconic steel structure persevered. The distinctive half-timbered dome, designed by Professor Ing. F. Lederer, still graces the skyline, a testament to its enduring spirit. The recent renovations have breathed new life into the Spirála. Modernized infrastructure now supports the restored historic acoustics. The original charm blends seamlessly with cutting-edge technology. Two rotating telescopic stages offer a 360-degree spectacle. No matter where you sit, among the 800 seats in the Great Hall, your view remains unobstructed. Four spiraling ramps lead you to your chosen level, either in the stalls or galleries. A smaller, more intimate stage has also been added, offering a club-like atmosphere for 340 guests. The Spirála’s story began in 1991 as part of the General Czechoslovak Exhibition. Originally a circular cinema from the 1970s, it was transformed into this architectural marvel. Today, Novà Spirála stands ready to host a diverse range of events. From theatre and musicals to modern circus, opera, sports, light shows, and video mapping, this multi-genre venue welcomes all forms of artistic expression. The theatre also collaborates with various artistic groups and is available for commercial projects. The reopening multimedia show, aptly titled “Resurrection”, captures the essence of the Spirála’s journey. Featuring pop hits from icons like Madonna, Nirvana, and Adele, it celebrates the theatre’s return to the cultural forefront of Prague. The Spirála isn’t just a theatre; it’s a symbol of resilience, a testament to the power of rebirth.
