A thrilling scramble awaits you on Spilhaus Ridge. Feel the adrenaline as you navigate the zig-zag path. This isn’t just a hike. It’s an adventure.
Spilhaus Ridge boasts a rich history interwoven with the landscape. Its trails are a mix of easy paths and challenging scrambles. Experienced hikers and beginners alike can find a suitable route.
The route begins near Rhodes Drive. From there you enter Spilhaus Ravine. This ravine has four jeep tracks crossing it. You’ll cross a stream three times. After heavy rain waterfalls appear. It’s a fun short excursion on its own. Near the top the path veers left. You get a stunning view of the buttress. A short distance further you encounter a junction of four paths. One leads back towards Constantia Corner. Another leads to Kirstenbosch. A less distinct path goes straight up. You’ll tackle short easy scrambles. There are two higher more exposed steps needing some care. A rope might be useful here.
The route then unexpectedly pops out onto a jeep track. You might surprise those strolling by. The “proper” route continues to Bel Ombre’s summit but it’s often skipped.
Several return options exist. You could descend the jeep track. Or you could go through the forest. You could also continue up to Cecilia Ridge or Constantia Corner. Spilhaus Ridge offers something for everyone. From thrilling scrambles to breathtaking views it is an unforgettable adventure.
