Established in 1996, the New Solid Rock Church of Jesus Christ has a unique story. It began with a vision. Pastors Terrence and Taunya Melvin felt a calling to establish a church focused on building strong souls for Christ. This divine inspiration struck them during a gospel musical at Banneker Academic High School in Washington D.C.. The New Solid Rock Church of Jesus Christ’s motto reflects this mission: “Building Strong Souls for Christ.” The “New” distinguishes it from other similarly named churches in the area. The church’s foundation is rooted in the belief that Jesus is the Christ, the son of the living God. The pastors received a confirming vision about the church’s structure and future growth shortly after. New Solid Rock Church of Jesus Christ officially launched on October 20, 1996. Initial Bible studies were held in the Melvin’s home, starting November 7, 1996. Just eight days later, they secured a space at 819 Upshur Street, N.W. Washington, D.C.. The church began with just the two pastors and their daughter, Theresa. Years later, on May 18, 2001, the growing congregation purchased the Upshur Street property. The New Solid Rock Church of Jesus Christ continued to thrive. In 2014, they relocated to Landover Hills, Maryland. During their time in Landover Hills, the church actively served the community. They partnered with Cooper Road Elementary School to provide back-to-school supplies and Thanksgiving meals to families. Their most recent move, in August 2024, brought them to their current home at 1103 State Route 3 N in Gambrills, Maryland. Despite the relocations, the New Solid Rock Church of Jesus Christ remains dedicated to its mission of winning souls for Christ through outreach. They invite everyone to join their Sunday worship services, either in person or virtually.
