Sobínský Hřbitov is located in the Praha-Zličín area, at Hostivická 45a. It sits in the northwestern part of the village. This location is more than just an address. It marks a solution to a pressing problem of the past.
Let’s step back to the 1930s. Sobín was growing. The old cemetery in Hostivice, where Sobín’s residents were buried, simply couldn’t handle the increasing number of burials anymore. Hostivice cemetery was full. A new, separate cemetery was needed to serve the community properly. So, Sobínský Hřbitov was established.
Interestingly, Sobínský Hřbitov wasn’t the only new burial ground created at that time. A joint cemetery for Litovice and Jeneček was also established simultaneously. This shows a broader trend of accommodating growing populations with new facilities.
Sobínský Hřbitov covers an area of approximately 0.25 hectares. While not vast, it provides a final resting place for many. In the northwestern part of the cemetery, near the wall, stands a cemetery chapel. This chapel offers a place for reflection and services.
