“The blacksmith’s shop” they called it. A curious name for a tranquil bay. But look closer. See those two rocks jutting from the sea? They resemble an anvil and bellows. This is Smitswinkelbaai the namesake of our Smitswinkel Tented Camp.

Welcome to Smitswinkel Tented Camp. This isn’t just any campsite. It’s the last “touching the earth lightly” camp built by Sanparks in Table Mountain National Park. Situated just 300 meters from the entrance to the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve it offers a unique blend of comfort and wilderness.

Imagine waking to the gentle sounds of the ocean. Step out of your permanent tent a sturdy structure with canvas interior and a weatherproof roof. Each tent at Smitswinkel Tented Camp is designed for two people. It has its own en-suite bathroom and a fully equipped kitchenette. You’ll find comfortable single beds fresh linen and towels provided.

The camp is built from timber felled and milled right here in the park. Sanparks carefully chose previously damaged sites to minimize environmental impact. It’s a testament to sustainable tourism.

Smitswinkel Tented Camp is more than just accommodation. It’s a base for exploring Cape Point. Enjoy hikes like the scenic 15km trail from Cape Point to Smitswinkel Bay. This trail winds along the False Bay coast offering breathtaking views of fynbos buck and baboons. Keep a watchful eye out for those clever primates. They are known to be opportunistic visitors.

There’s a communal boma and braai area perfect for sharing stories under the stars. But remember no wood is allowed. Bring your own charcoal for those delicious braais. The camp also has secure parking. A TMNP staff member is on site during your stay ensuring your safety and peace of mind.

While shops aren’t nearby it is advised to bring all your provisions. The remoteness of the camp adds to its charm. It’s a chance to disconnect and reconnect with nature.

Smitswinkel Tented Camp. It’s not just a place to sleep. It’s an experience. A chance to explore the rugged beauty of Cape Point while enjoying the comforts of a well-equipped camp. Remember to respect the environment and keep a safe distance from the local baboons.
