Is this Skakunův most painted in the colors of the Ukrainian flag? Look closely! Skakunův most is a fairly new landmark in Prague. You can find it in the sixth district. It was previously an unnamed bridge. The bridge is named after Vitaliy Skakun, a Ukrainian military engineer who died in the Ukrainian city of Henichesk on February 24, 2022. Skakun decided to sacrifice his life by blowing up a bridge to prevent the advance of invading Russian troops. He was posthumously awarded the title Hero of Ukraine. Since the bridge is situated rather close to the Russian embassy, the city decided to rename the formerly unnamed section of Korunovační Street to Ukrainian Heroes Street and the bridge to Skakunův most. This act of solidarity was meant to show support for Ukraine in the war against Russia. So, next time you find yourselves here, take a moment to remember the sacrifice of Vitaliy Skakun and the bravery of the Ukrainian people.
