In 1970, a seed of education was planted in Lam Tin. This seed was Sing Yin Secondary School, nurtured by the Divine Word Missionaries and their appointed representative, Father H.P. Canavan. Sing Yin Secondary School began its journey on On Tin Street, fostering young minds and shaping futures. The first fruits of this labor were harvested in 1974 when 135 students, comprising four graduating classes, marked a milestone for Sing Yin Secondary School. The school continued to grow under Father Canavan’s guidance for over two decades. In 1993, the torch was passed to Father Brian Lawless and Miss Wong Wai Yein. They took the helm as Supervisor and Principal respectively, guiding Sing Yin Secondary School into a new era. The school’s silver jubilee in 1995 was a momentous occasion, celebrated with a Eucharist Mass led by Cardinal Wu Chun Chung. The new millennium brought further changes to Sing Yin Secondary School. In 2001, Miss Wong Wai Yein embarked on a new chapter in Australia. Mr. Kwok But, the Assistant Principal, stepped up to lead the school. The following year, Father Brian Lawless passed his responsibilities to Father Emilio Lim. A significant transformation occurred in 2011. Sing Yin Secondary School relocated to a state-of-the-art campus on New Clear Water Bay Road. This move marked Sing Yin Secondary School as Hong Kong’s first demonstration school dedicated to environmental conservation. This commitment to sustainability earned Sing Yin Secondary School international recognition in 2013. They received the prestigious “Greenest School on Earth” award from the US Green School Centre, affiliated with the US Green Building Council. The same year saw the establishment of the IMC and the resignation of Father Emilio Lim, replaced by Father Johnson Dhos. Mr. Kwok But retired in 2014. Mr. Wong Chi Keung, the Assistant Principal, became the new Principal. Sing Yin Secondary School celebrated its golden jubilee in 2019, a testament to its enduring legacy. Cardinal Tong Hon graced the occasion as the Chief Celebrant in the Thanksgiving Mass. Most recently, in 2024, Dr. Hui Chi Kuen, former Vice Principal, became the Principal of Sing Yin Secondary School, ready to write the next chapter in its story.
