Picture this Silver Creek Middle School a modern marvel in Kensington Maryland. Opened in September 2017 it’s a testament to Montgomery County’s commitment to education. This impressive four-story building boasts 163000 square feet of learning space. It’s one of the largest middle schools in MCPS nestled on a relatively small site.
Silver Creek Middle School wasn’t just built it was thoughtfully designed. The architects aimed to minimize its environmental footprint. The result is a bright airy school flooded with natural light. The school truly lives up to its name evoking the image of a natural winding stream.
But Silver Creek Middle School is more than just a pretty building. It’s a vibrant hub of activity. Eleven state-of-the-art laboratories support science technology and other subjects. Four gymnasiums and a spacious courtyard offer ample opportunities for recreation. A large multi-purpose room serves as the school’s cafeteria.
Initially Silver Creek Middle School welcomed only sixth and seventh graders. Around 560 students filled its hallways. The student population expanded quickly reaching approximately 800 by 2018-2019 with the addition of eighth grade. Sixty-five dedicated staff members work tirelessly to support these students.
The construction of Silver Creek Middle School was a significant investment. Montgomery County poured over forty million dollars into this project. The school played a crucial role in alleviating overcrowding in the Bethesda Chevy Chase cluster. Students from North Chevy Chase Rosemary Hills Chevy Chase and Rock Creek Forest elementary schools now attend Silver Creek.
