Wonder what fuels the creation of captivating anime? Here we are at Signal.MD in Tokyo. This animation studio is known for bringing stories to life. Signal.MD was founded in October 2014. It was established by IG Port, a holding company of Production I.G.
Signal.MD aimed to pioneer digital animation technology. The studio also wanted to create animation for families. Katsuji Morishita from Production I.G became the first president.
Signal.MD has produced many notable works. “Atom: The Beginning” is one example. It is co-animated with OLM and Production I.G. “Recovery of an MMO Junkie” also comes from Signal.MD. The studio also created “Hashiri Tsuzukete Yokattatte.” This is an original anime about aspiring voice actors.
The studio contributed to “FLCL Progressive” and “Kedama no Gonjiro”. Signal.MD also produced “Dragon Goes House-Hunting.” In 2021, they released “Mars Red” and “Platinum End”.
Signal.MD’s filmography includes “Colorful Ninja Iromaki”. This short film was part of Anime Tamago. They co-animated “Cyborg 009: Call of Justice” with OLM. Signal.MD created “Napping Princess” and “Birthday Wonderland”. “Kimi dake ni Motetainda” is another original film by the studio. They also worked on “Fate/Grand Order – Divine Realm of the Round Table: Camelot”. Furthermore, Signal.MD co-animated “Words Bubble Up Like Soda Pop” with Sublimation. “Deemo: Memorial Keys” was co-animated with Production I.G.
Takatoshi Chino became president in 2022. But in January 2025, IG Port announced a merger. Production I.G absorbed Signal.MD in June 2025. The Signal.MD brand was dissolved. The goal was to improve resource management and profitability.
