The Siebener Denkmal holds a unique piece of the city’s history, a story etched in stone and weathered by time. The Siebener Denkmal was unveiled in 1927. It was designed by the sculptor Fritz von Graevenitz. This striking obelisk, crafted from Muschelkalk, reaches skyward. It’s a three-sided structure, each face bearing inscriptions that whisper tales of bravery and loss. The Siebener Denkmal is dedicated to the soldiers of the Infantry Regiment Kaiser Friedrich, King of Prussia (7th Württemberg) No. 125. These men fought in the First World War. The monument stands as a poignant reminder of their service. One side lists the regiment’s campaigns, from 1809 against Austria to the Great War of 1914-1918. The battles fought across France, Flanders, Poland, Russia, Serbia, and Italy are etched into the stone. Another side recounts the regiment’s history, founded in 1809 and dissolved in 1919, after serving under four kings. The final side features lines from Theodor Körner’s poem “Der preußische Grenz-Adler” – a tribute to courage and patriotism. Over time, the inscriptions on the Siebener Denkmal have become weathered.
