Established in 1940, Showa Gakuin Junior & Senior High School has witnessed a fascinating evolution. Showa Gakuin started as a girls’ vocational school. The first entrance ceremony took place on April 8, 1940. Just a few years later, in March 1944, the first graduation ceremony was held. Showa Gakuin expanded its educational offerings with the opening of a junior high school in 1947 and a senior high school in 1948. The school’s song, still sung today, was composed in 1949. In a burst of growth in 1950, Showa Gakuin also added an elementary school and a junior college. Fast forward to 2003, and Showa Gakuin transitioned to co-educational classes for both junior and senior high schools. Showa Gakuin celebrated its 60th and 65th anniversaries in 2000 and 2005, respectively. As of 2006, over 39,700 students had graduated from Showa Gakuin, contributing to society in various fields. In recent years, Showa Gakuin has continued to innovate. New campus plans led to the completion of new buildings for kindergarten, elementary, junior high, and senior high school in 2010. They designed a new uniform in 2020, marking the 80th anniversary. Showa Gakuin’s rich history and continued development make it a prominent educational institution in Tokyo.
