How about a journey to Shouson Hill a place where history luxury and natural beauty intertwine? Shouson Hill stands 148 meters high. It is located on the coast of Deep Water Bay east of Wong Chuk Hang in Hong Kong.

Shouson Hill got its name from Chow Shouson. He was a senior official in the Qing Dynasty and later a businessman and politician in Hong Kong. In the early 20th century the British military used Shouson Hill. They built bunkers and sentry posts to watch over Deep Water Bay and Aberdeen. This also included the area now occupied by Ocean Park.

During World War II locals sought refuge here from Japanese air assaults. Even today some bunkers remain as silent witnesses to the past. Some locals believe these untouched bunkers are haunted by the ghosts of soldiers.

Today Shouson Hill is one of Hong Kong’s most exclusive suburbs. Like the Peak it attracts Hong Kong’s tycoons with its prestigious reputation. The roads here wind through lush greenery creating a peaceful atmosphere. From here you can enjoy panoramic views of Deep Water Bay and the sea. The landscape is covered with mandarin shrubs mangrove trees palm trees and coniferous forest trees. The area also provides a habitat for black kites snakes lizards and estuary birds. Shouson Hill is steep and can be prone to landslides during heavy rain.

Shouson Hill Road loops off Wong Chuk Hang Road offering access to this exclusive area. Green Minibus No. 5 connects Aberdeen and Causeway Bay via Shouson Hill. The MTR South Island line’s Ocean Park station is at the foot of the hill. Shouson Place provides local shopping including a supermarket.
