Ever wondered where a metro station meets a shopper’s paradise? That’s Shopping Metrô Tucuruvi for you. This isn’t just another mall. It’s a hub connecting people and purchases. Opened on April 18 2013 Shopping Metrô Tucuruvi has quickly become a Zona Norte tradition. Its slogan says it all. “Shopping Metrô Tucuruvi ao seu lado.” That means “Shopping Metrô Tucuruvi by your side.”
Imagine this spot back in 2007. The Metro’s business managers were finalizing the bidding process for its construction. By the second half of 2008 the city hall was still reviewing construction permits. The original opening was planned for the second half of 2009. Besides the Shopping Metrô Tucuruvi itself the project included a city bus terminal for 23 local bus routes. Road improvements aimed to reduce traffic in the area.
However construction faced numerous delays. Actual work began in May 2010. The opening was then expected in the first half of 2012. The budget was around R$200 million. The Shopping Metrô Tucuruvi hoped to attract 70000 people and 3000 vehicles daily. Anticipation was high. The developers even planned an expansion before construction was complete.
The grand opening of Shopping Metrô Tucuruvi finally arrived in April 2013. It happened in two stages. Initially the ground floor and movie theaters remained closed. The company needed to finish road work first. The second opening phase occurred in August 2013 before all required work was done.
Today Shopping Metrô Tucuruvi boasts over 200 stores in a 32000 square meter space. You will find leading brands like Renner Riachuelo Marisa Casas Bahia Preçolandia and Daiso. There is even an Ikesaki store. This mall is directly linked to the Tucuruvi metro station. It also connects to three city bus terminals serving various parts of the city.
Getting here is easy. The Shopping Metrô Tucuruvi benefits from its integration with the Tucuruvi station. Roughly 1.5 million customers visit each month. Its design includes a single corridor. This makes it easy to navigate and see all the stores.
In November 2016 the shopping center was sold to the HSI group. Shopping Metrô Tucuruvi continues to thrive. It offers a mix of shops services and attractions for everyone.
