Originally the headquarters of the São Paulo Tramway, Light and Power Company, Shopping Light began its journey in 1929. The company, known simply as “Light,” illuminated the city, powering the first tram line in 1900 and installing the first electric streetlights in 1905. The building itself, inaugurated in 1929, stood as a symbol of progress. Now, this nine-story architectural marvel with its eclectic style continues to shine, albeit in a different light. Transformed into a shopping center in 1999, Shopping Light retains its historic charm. The original façade with its iron windows offers panoramic views of the Anhangabaú Valley. Inside, translucent glass skylights bathe the space in natural light, a nod to its illuminating past. Five floors of shops and a food court buzz with activity, where shoppers stroll amidst the echoes of the building’s former life.
