“A hidden gem,” a local once told me about Sherwood Park. Sherwood Park isn’t your typical bustling city park. It offers a peaceful escape. Sherwood Park in Sydney is actually a bit of a misnomer. Our Sherwood Park is located near Coffs Harbour, roughly 340 kilometers north-northeast of Sydney. The name can be confusing, I know. The closest village is Green Hill, a small community of about 700 people. Sherwood Park itself is part of Sherwood Nature Reserve. This reserve boasts incredible biodiversity. Think rugged sandstone escarpments and coastal ridges. Imagine dry open forests, heaths, and vibrant subtropical rainforests. Sherwood Nature Reserve is a haven for birdwatchers. Over 50 native animal species call this place home. You might spot a brush-tailed rock wallaby. Perhaps a long-nosed potoroo, a powerful owl, or even a giant barred frog. One of the reserve’s highlights is the Falls walking track, an easy stroll through the rainforest leading to spectacular views of Woolgoolga Creek Falls. For a scenic drive, explore Sherwood Forest Drive. It offers picturesque picnic spots and breathtaking views of the coastline and Orara Valley. If relaxation is your aim, head to Woolgoolga Creek picnic area. Enjoy a barbecue, do some birdwatching, or simply soak in the tranquility. While Sherwood Park, near Coffs Harbour, might not be the Sydney park you initially expected, its natural beauty and peaceful atmosphere make it a worthy destination.
