Imagine a phoenix rising from ashes. That’s a bit like the story of Segeltorps Kyrka. This church stands as a testament to resilience and community spirit.

Segeltorps Kyrka is located in Segeltorp. It is part of Huddinge Municipality. The church belongs to S:t Mikaels parish in the Diocese of Stockholm. It is a part of the Church of Sweden. Vårby gårds kyrka also belongs to S:t Mikaels parish.

The story of a church in Segeltorp began in the 1930s. A church workgroup formed. Their goal was to raise money for a chapel. Through donations from the Church Promotion Society, the group achieved their dream. Saint Michael’s Chapel opened on February 19 1933.

In 1970 the chapel expanded. Architect Rolf Bergh designed a temporary church building. It was then renamed Segeltorps Kyrka.

Tragedy struck in 1987. A fire destroyed the old chapel. Only the temporary church building survived. It became the cornerstone of a new church.

In 1989, the church was rebuilt. It took on its current appearance. The square pyramid roof has a gilded spire. It depicts two Viking ships. A bell tower stands near the church.

Inside, a glulam construction supports the church room. Sam Granströms Arkitektbyrå designed the parish premises.

The church interior holds special treasures. Mats Eriksson created the baptismal font from carved oak. It features a hand-hammered brass dish. Anna Lisa Odelqvist-Kruse crafted the altarpiece. It is a textile work in various shades of blue.

Segeltorps Kyrka has a rich musical history too. In 1961, an organ moved here from Trångsunds church. Grönlunds Orgelbyggeri AB built it in 1958. The organ was mechanical. Today, the church has a different organ. Mårtenssons orgelfabrik built it in 1992. It has 13 stops.

Segeltorps Kyrka is more than just a building. It is a hub for the community. You can find group activities and choirs for all ages here. Music lunches are also held here. There is an open preschool. “Heaven & Pancake” is a Messy Church activity.

S:t Mikaels parish has two churches. Segeltorps Kyrka is one. The other is in Vårby gård. Segeltorps Kyrka is often full during the week. Church life is part of daily life. The parish serves a multicultural community in Vårby gård. Sunday Mass is important to many people there.

Segeltorps Kyrka’s story teaches us about faith. It shows what a community can achieve together. The church welcomes everyone. It offers a space for worship, community and reflection. Take a moment to appreciate its beauty. Remember its inspiring history.
