The SCS Hauptgebäude has seen changes in ownership over the years. In 2007, it was acquired by the French real estate giant Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield. Later, in 2021, Crédit Agricole Assurances obtained a 45% stake. This reflects the SCS Hauptgebäude’s significant economic impact. The mall even underwent a complete renovation and rebranding in 2012, further solidifying its status as a modern shopping destination. The SCS Hauptgebäude is easily accessible. The Badner Bahn light rail station is conveniently located right in front. For those arriving by car, over 10,000 parking spaces are available. This caters to the mall’s design, which prioritized car access, reflecting the transportation trends of the 1970s. The SCS Hauptgebäude’s construction outside Vienna was a strategic move to reduce costs. This has led to an interesting dynamic, with considerable purchasing power flowing from Vienna to Lower Austria. This hasn’t been without its complications, and the mall’s location outside Vienna’s core public transport zone has been a point of contention.
