Founded in 1946 Scientia Secondary School boasts a rich history. Originally named Mongkok Workers’ Children School it served the children of Kowloon’s working class. The school faced challenges. The school’s participation in the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination in 1980 signified this shift. In the 1980s it lobbied successfully for government subsidies. It joined the Direct Subsidy Scheme in 1991. This secured its future. The school’s achievements continued. In 1996 Scientia Secondary School won the Hong Kong Mathematics Olympiad.
