Built from slate quarry stones Schloss Marienlay stands proudly. It wasn’t always so grand. This impressive structure only rose between 1922 and 1927. A previous building a simple Kelterhaus stood here from around 1880. It was demolished in 1961 to make way for the current Schloss.

Schloss Marienlay sits on a hillside overlooking the Ruwer Valley near Morscheid. Its location is stunning. It commands breathtaking views. Today the Schloss is more than just a beautiful building. It’s the home of the prestigious Weingut Reichsgraf von Kesselstatt. This winery boasts a rich history. The von Kesselstatt family has a long lineage. Their roots trace back to Hesse. They are one of the Mosel region’s largest landowners. Records show their vineyard ownership dating back to 1349. That’s quite a legacy.

Imagine the lives lived within these walls. Generations of the von Kesselstatt family shaped this place. They were abbots diplomats and influential government figures. Their influence extended far beyond the vineyard. Their family also built a Baroque palace in Trier in the mid-18th century. It still stands today. It’s worth visiting. Now it includes a charming wine bar. In 1978 Günther Reh and his family acquired both the palace and the von Kesselstatt winery. This ensured the estate’s continued success. It allowed the world-class wines to be enjoyed at their source. A tasting at romantic Schloss Marienlay is a true treat.

Schloss Marienlay is more than just a building. It’s a testament to history. It represents a family’s enduring legacy. It’s also a vibrant symbol of the Mosel wine region’s excellence. The vineyard’s 12 hectares stretch across the Mosel Saar and Ruwer regions. This provides a unique range of terroir. This ensures the wines maintain their distinctive characters. A wine tasting at Schloss Marienlay is a journey through time and flavor. It’s an experience you won’t forget.
