High in the Himalayas, nestled within Thimphu, rests the sacred Sangay Menlha. Have you ever heard of a Jinlap? It’s a sacred pill, believed to be blessed by the Medicine Buddha himself. The Sangay Menlha prayer, a grand sadhana of the Medicine Buddha, is often held here. Over 300 monks, led by the Je Khenpo, participate in this nine-day ritual at Sangay Menlha. The purpose? One Khenpo, a learned teacher at Tango University, described the Jinlap from Sangay Menlha as particularly special. He said that if someone consumes this Jinlap, they will be safeguarded against pandemics. People travel from all over to Sangay Menlha, hoping to receive these blessings and find relief from suffering. They queue up, eager to receive their share of Ngagchhu and the potent Jinlap from the Sangay Menlha prayer. They come seeking solace, hoping to cleanse past sins and find healing. The holy water and Jinlaps from Sangay Menlha are not just for Thimphu. They are distributed throughout Bhutan, ensuring that everyone has a chance to partake in the blessings generated at Sangay Menlha. The distribution is carefully managed, often through local religious leaders, so that these precious items from Sangay Menlha reach those who seek them. The Dratshang, Bhutan’s central monastic body, even plans to share these blessings from Sangay Menlha with those beyond Bhutan’s borders. Sangay Menlha stands as a beacon of hope and healing in the heart of Thimphu.
