Sandudden

Hidden amidst the rustling leaves of Järfälla, Sandudden whispers tales of bygone eras. Sandudden started as a humble croft in the mid-1800s. It served the grand Viksjö gård, a testament to a time when life moved at a slower pace. Imagine the year 1858, the year Sandudden officially became a croft, a home for families seeking solace by the shimmering waters of Mälaren. Life at Sandudden wasn’t always easy. The crofters toiled the land, their lives intertwined with the rhythms of nature. Yet, a sense of community thrived here. Generations of families called Sandudden home, each leaving their mark on this tranquil haven. The croft was continuously inhabited until 1934, echoing with the laughter of children and the quiet murmur of daily life. Sandudden saw nine different crofters during its time, each with their own stories to tell. One such crofter, Gustaf Adolf Boudrie, a native of Järfälla, resided at Sandudden for 17 years, from 1868 to 1885. His successor, Carl Gustaf Lindgren, stayed for 15 years. Lindgren, a mason by trade, was known for his meticulous repairs at Viksjö gård. He was also known for his visits to a homeopath in Stockholm for his stomach ailments. Now, picture Sandudden in the 1920s, bustling with activity as it served as the residence of Viksjö’s skogvaktare, or forest warden. Viktor Klintebäck patrolled the woods, his watchful eye ensuring the well-being of the forest. Hunting crows and foxes was part of his duty, and he even kept a watchful eye on the local swimming area. Even the moose became almost tame under his care. Sandudden’s location, near Skäftingeholmen and Koffsan island, made it a place of strategic importance. In 1966, ownership of Sandudden passed to the Järfälla Municipality. It has since transformed. Today, Sandudden stands as a testament to its rich past. Since 1984, the main building has been leased as an art gallery and café, a hub of creativity and community. Sandudden continues to enchant visitors with its serene beauty and whispers of history.
