Introduction to San Wai. It reflects Shenzhen’s dynamic growth and rich history.

Shenzhen was once Bao’an County. The State Council dissolved the county in 1979. Shenzhen city was established in its place. This marked the beginning of Shenzhen’s journey as a special economic zone.

In 1980, Shenzhen had a population of only 30000. It became China’s first special economic zone. Deng Xiaoping promoted this. It aimed to test market capitalism. The goal was a community guided by socialism with Chinese characteristics.

Shenzhen was promoted to a sub-provincial division in 1981. There were plans to develop its own currency. However, these plans were dropped. The government did not want two currencies operating in one country.

To maintain order, Shenzhen erected a border in 1983. This border had barbed wire and checkpoints. It separated the SEZ from the rest of China. This was known as the second line border.

In 1990, the Shenzhen Stock Exchange was established. It provided a platform for centralized securities trading. In 1992, Shenzhen gained the power to make local laws.

By 2001, more migrants chose Shenzhen over Hong Kong. Shenzhen’s economy offered increasing opportunities. In 2010, the State Council dissolved the second line. The Shenzhen SEZ expanded to include all districts.

Shenzhen’s transformation is described as Shenzhen Speed. This term reflects rapid construction and constant competition.

Today, Shenzhen stands as a leading global technology hub. It is sometimes called China’s Silicon Valley. The city’s culture promotes innovation and entrepreneurship.

As you stand here in San Wai remember Shenzhen’s incredible journey. It transformed from a small village to a global economic power. San Wai embodies this spirit of transformation. It connects Shenzhen’s past with its present.
