The Sam Ibrahim Building is located at 1050 Military Trail. It stands at the corner of Military Trail and Pan Am Drive.
The Sam Ibrahim Building, formerly known as Instructional Centre 2, represents a transformative partnership. Scarborough-based entrepreneur Sam Ibrahim invested $25 million in UTSC. This established the Sam Ibrahim Building. It also created the Sam Ibrahim Centre for Inclusive Excellence in Entrepreneurship Innovation and Leadership.
Designed by CEBRA Architecture and ZAS Architects the Sam Ibrahim Building spans 19300 square meters. It includes a roof terrace. Landscape architects at LAND INC contributed to its design. EllisDon Corporation constructed it. The building opened in August 2024.
The Sam Ibrahim Building’s core idea is to encourage continuous exchange between students and instructors. It aims to engage students in social relations. The ground floor acts as a 360-degree campus living room. It merges with the surrounding public realm. Inspired by the Highland Creek ravine the landscape extends indoors. You’ll notice sloping mounds embedded seating and planting beds. These create a natural terraced base. Open campus spaces extend upwards across five stories. This forms a coherent educational landscape.
The building’s exterior mirrors the diverse hierarchy of rooms within. Facades showcase the interior activities. They make the variety of learning situations visible from outside. The mosaic communicates the vibrant life of the Sam Ibrahim Building.
The Sam Ibrahim Building also embraces environmentally friendly features. These include a green roof. Its energy efficiency performance is 40 percent above building industry standards. This commitment aligns with UTSC’s focus on wellness and sustainable design.
The Sam Ibrahim Building houses the Department of Computer and Mathematical Sciences. It also houses Student Services. The Sam Ibrahim Centre for Inclusive Excellence in Entrepreneurship Innovation and Leadership operates here. It leverages the university’s research expertise and global networks.
