It’s a thread woven through the tapestry of its history, a sensory echo of centuries of worship. Saint Pauls Community Church, nestled on K Street, stands as a testament to faith’s enduring power. Its Christmas “Midnight Mass” in 1870 was perhaps the first of its kind for Anglicans in America. The church’s dedication to daily Eucharist dates back to at least 1900. The Blessed Sacrament has been reserved continuously since 1912. But progress, in the form of a new George Washington University hospital, demanded the church’s relocation. In 1944, the government claimed the land. The congregation, initially disheartened, rallied to rebuild. They found a new home on K Street, designed by architect Philip H. Frohman. This new Saint Pauls Community Church opened its doors in June 1948, even with some interior work still underway. Just a few weeks later, on July 18th, the building was dedicated, a testament to the hard work and dedication of the builders. The church has continued to evolve. A major renovation in 2009 created a new entrance, atrium, and music facilities, further solidifying Saint Pauls Community Church’s presence as a spiritual haven.
